Our consultation fees are in line with the Australian Medical Association (AMA) guidelines and industry standards:
New Consultation : $200 ($150 for Pensioners)
Review Consultation : $100
All care after surgery including wound reviews, removal of sutures and dressings are included in surgical fee.
Consultation fees have to be paid on the day of your appointment. We accept EFTPOS, Credit Card (Visa/Mastercard) or Cheque.
We are an ethical practice, and believe that if you've had the foresight to take out private insurance, then you shouldn't have to pay excessive fees when the time comes that you need to use your insurance.
However, not all insurers are created equal. Like how you can reduce your car insurance premium by increasing your excess, some insurers will reduce their rates to you and reduce their remuneration to the health care professional when you go to use your insurance. Thus as a surgeon we could be paid very different rates for doing the same operation on two patients with different insurers.
Taking this into account, we will not charge you a gap if you are with an insurer that remunerates us fairly (the major insurers such as BUPA, Medibank Private and HCF among others fall into this category). If you are with an insurer that remunerates less you will be charged a known gap: this will never be more than $500, even if the difference between your insurer and another insurer is more than that. If you are a pensioner, on a health care card or facing financial hardship we will waive this gap altogether.
All accounts will be submitted directly to your insurer. If you do need to pay a gap, we will provide you with a financial consent outlining these fees, and you will need to pay it 7 days prior to your surgery.
Our surgical assistants will not charge you a gap. You may have to pay a small gap to the specialist anesthetist involved in your care.
The hospital costs will be covered by your private health insurance, but you may have to pay an excess depending on your insurance.
We strongly believe that every patient deserves world-class treatment, and will always accept Workcover and TAC patients. Please bring your claim number and any relevant documents for your appointment. You will have to pay a consultation fee on the day and we will provide you with a receipt to be reimbursed by Workcover or TAC.
